Agents: Specialized AI Teaching Assistants
by TeamTeacher
What Are Agents?
Agents are specialized AI teaching assistants within TeamTeacher. Each agent is configured with specific knowledge, instructions, and tools tailored to a particular curriculum or teaching context. Think of them as expert colleagues who are always available to help.
How Agents Work
When you start a conversation with an agent, it uses:
- System prompts — Detailed instructions about its area of expertise
- Model selection — The underlying AI model best suited for the task
- Tool access — Specific tools enabled for the agent (e.g., web search, document creation)
- Knowledge bases — Curriculum-specific materials the agent can reference
Built-in Agents
TeamTeacher includes several pre-configured agents:
- Minerva — International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum specialist
- Barbara — Texas education system expert
- Maeva — Cook Islands curriculum specialist
Each agent understands the standards, frameworks, and best practices for their respective educational contexts.
Custom Agents
You can also create your own custom agents with:
- Custom system instructions
- Selected tools
- Preferred AI model
- Personalized avatar
Choosing the Right Agent
Consider these factors when selecting an agent:
- Curriculum alignment — Which agent knows your standards?
- Subject expertise — Some agents specialize in certain subjects
- Task type — Lesson planning, assessment creation, or student support?
